Milestones Area Agency on Aging
Milestones Area Agency on Aging works with communities and community-based organizations to increase awareness for aging successfully with dignity and independence. They work with seniors and caregivers in a 17-county region in eastern Iowa to assure healthy and productive aging and prevention of financial and physical abuse.
With offices in Davenport, Burlington, and Ottumwa, Milestones connects seniors and their caregivers to the services they need. For example, care coordination provides connections to services such as homemaker, personal care, home-delivered meals, and home modifications so that seniors can stay in their home for as long as feasible. Other programs help the thousands of people caring for a loved one in the region with resources and referrals to needed services. Elder Rights Specialists help educate and investigate suspected cases of elder abuse, both financial and physical. Congregate meal sites – known as Milestones Community Cafés -- provide participants an opportunity to socialize with other attendees while enjoying a delicious and nutritious lunch.
Wastyn & Associates worked with the staff and board of Milestones over the past two years to develop and strengthen their board. By mandate, they have both a governing board and an advisory board, both of which need to represent their large and diverse territory. Over the last two years, we have provided board education on topics identified by them as key to moving the organization forward, reviewed and revised their bylaws and advisory committee bylaws, and worked with them to develop a board matrix and recruitment plan to identify and recruit board members and advisory committee members from across their service area assures the organization’s long-term success.
Working with Wastyn & Associates has been such a pleasure. Linda worked closely with Milestones AAA to provide board training tailored to our specific needs and situation, and she presented the sessions in a productive, professional manner that encouraged participation and held the group’s interest.
